    Cosmopolitan made Authentic

King Street is beautifully decorated for the holiday season. So much so, HGTV named Alexandria a Top 10 Christmas Town! Fantastic shopping, traditional annual events like the Scottish Christmas Walk, and sweet brick-lined streets make this a trip you won't soon forget.

    Day One:

Check into any number of Alexandria's boutique hotels or familiar national names, most of which are pet-friendly. Stroll along Old Town's brick-lined streets, glittering under twinkling lights and buzzing with seasonal cheer.

Pause into one of King Street corridor's independent shops and find unique gifts for loved ones like stylish cookware at La Cuisine or craft goods at knitting Mecca fibre space. At the Fish Market, taste famous clam chowder or go to Vermilion Restaurant, La Bergerie or Restaurant Eve.

    Day Two:

Alexandria's place as a historic hotspot stretches back centuries, with nine intimate museums in one square mile. See where George Washington used to wine and dine at Gadsby's Tavern Museum or uncover the city's past at The Lyceum, Alexandria's History Museum.

Venture down to George Washington's Mount Vernon on the new Holiday Trolley and tread paths once familiar to some of the key players in American history. Peek in at ephemera belonging to the nation's first president, tour the historic grounds by candlelight or visit with Aladdin the camel, who roams the grounds during the holidays.

While you're out, stop over in colorful Del Ray for award-winning hot chocolate at Artfully Chocolate and a brisk mosey down Mount Vernon Avenue, where you're greeted by friendly shop owners and holiday markets.

    Alexandria - Family Shopping

    Day Three:

Delight in brunch at Fontaine Caffe and Creperie before heading into the Alexandria Black History Museum for an inside look at Alexandria's African-American history from the Civil War to civil rights and beyond.

For a heaping dose of arts and culture, pause in the Atheneaum, a columned Greek revival structure turned art gallery or the Torpedo Factory Art Center, a former munitions factory that, in the seventies, was transformed into 82 working artists' studios, six art galleries and the Alexandria Archaeology Museum.

Along the waterfront, nibble on a quick meal from the newly opened Waterfront Market or amble along the pier and glimpse the national monuments just across the Potomac River.
