    Culpeper - April 16-20 - Horse Shows in the Sun: Commonwealth National - The Commonwealth National features hunter, jumper and equitation competitions in six all-weather rings. Each event hosts approximately 900 to 1,300 horses. Shop in the Vendor Courtyard featuring 15 to 20 shops offering horse-themed gifts, clothes, art, antiques, and jewelry.

    Vienna - April 25 - Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival - Melodic island music with uncommon tunings and finger picking by Hawaii's finest players.

    Culpeper - April 26 - Gnarly Hops & Barley Fest - Gnarly Hops & Barley Fest will offer over 40 varieties of craft beer along with a selection of amazing local food and great music.

    Alexandria - April 27 - Presidential Salon with James Madison - Join President Madison as he discusses and engages guests about political and personal issues of 1813.

    Martinsville - April 4 - First Fridays Painting + Pinot at Piedmont Arts - Ready for a fun night out? Bring your enthusiasm, some friends and your beverage of choice for a night of painting at Piedmont Arts.

    Richmond - April 4-6 - The Bizarre Bazaar Spring Market - Show hours for this springtime event are 10am-7pm Thursday, Friday and 10am-5pm Sunday. This year's show will present more than 275-juried exhibitors in two buildings.

    Petersburg - April 19-20 - 233rd Anniversary of the 1781 Battle of Petersburg - The Annual Revolutionary War Reenactment of the 1781 Battle of Petersburg to be held at historic Battersea, with reenactments of the historic battle.

     

     Shenandoah Valley

    Harrisonburg - April 4-5 - MACROCK - MACROCK is an annual celebration of independent music for one weekend in April in downtown Harrisonburg.

    Roanoke - April 5-6 - Coppelia presented by Southwest Virginia Ballet - Coppelia is a romantic comedic ballet based on stories by ETA Hoffman. The setting is in a European village in the late 1800's. It is a story about a beautiful young girl, Swanhilda; her fiance, Franz; the doll-maker, Dr Coppelius; and the doll, Coppelia.

    Buchanan - April 12 - An Evening of Elegance in Buchanan - "Moonlight Magic" provides guests an opportunity to mingle in the beautiful gardens at the Community House. Guests are requested to arrive in dress attire, show off your newest spring outfit while enjoying heavy hors d'oeuvres being prepared by the Buchanan Town Improvement Society, while a cash bar will offer wine from Virginia Mountain Vineyards, plus beer & sangria. Live music featuring the Lenny Marcus Jazz Trio will round out the evening's activities.

    Lexington - April 12 - Lexington Scots Irish Heritage Festival - Lexington's Scots Irish Heritage Festival -- Featuring highland games, live music, craft vendors, traditional foods, and more, in the historic and scenic Shenandoah Valley.

    Waynesboro - April 12-13 - Virginia Fly Fishing and Wine Festival - Virginia Fly Fishing and Wine Festival offers one stop shopping for fly fishing gear, fishing guides, men and women's casting classes, Virginia wine tasting and live music.

    Staunton - April 16-19 - Wool Days - Come see sheep shearing, wool carding and spinning. Interpreters will be shearing Cotswold and Tunis sheep at different farm locations around the Museum. See how the wool was then processed and spun. Don't forget to see the baby lambs!

    Staunton - April 20 - Shakespeare's 450th Birthday Party - This April, Shakespeare turns 450 and YOU'RE invited to his birthday party. Join us at the American Shakespeare Center's Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton, VA for a family-friendly celebration.

    Staunton - April 26-27 - Virginia Hot Glass Festival - Flaming torches and fire-breathing dragons are part of the magic of the Virginia Hot Glass Festival at Sunspots Studios in downtown Staunton. Hot glass artists from around the region gather annually at the Festival, bringing booths full of beautiful art glass items and demonstrating their craft throughout the weekend.

    Norfolk - April 10-13 - Sea Level Singer/Songwriter Festival - The Sea Level Singer/Songwriter Festival is a three-day event that promotes original, live music and the artists who write and perform their work.

    Norfolk - April 12 - Virginia Symphony POPS! presents: Pixar in Concert - For kids and adults alike, the Virginia Symphony performs memorable soundtracks from Pixar's movies live with visual clips.

    Newport News - April 17 - Distinguished Speaker Series: Doris Kearns Goodwin - After Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln, Doris Kearns Goodwin once again wields her magic on another larger-than-life president and a momentous and raucous American time period as she brings Theodore Roosevelt, the muckraking journalists and the Progressive Era to life in this new presentation.

    Norfolk - April 24-27 - Virginia International Tattoo - Virginia International Tattoo A Centuries-Old Scottish Tradition with a 21st Century American Soul!

    Newport News - April 25 - The Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra Presents: A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald - The orchestra recreates big-band jazz as its composers and arrangers intended it to be played, stripping away intervening changes and alterations. The SJMO has rediscovered old classics and more recently has begun premiering new works all in tribute to the great Ella Fitzgerald.

    Yorktown - April 26-27 - Pirates Invade Yorktown - Pirates, representing seafaring life in the late 17th and 18th-centuries, invade Yorktown. Visit the encampment, watch the cannon firing demonstrations, and sing with pirates.

    Virginia Beach - April 30 - Ben Folds - Folds' lyrical acuity remains equally idiosyncratic, his trademark wise-crackery and wry character portrayals now edged with significantly more experience and insight. In the same spirit as the Ben Folds Five band's intimate instrumental interplay, audiences see Folds himself exploring myriad themes of letting go, and of shattering the boundaries between identity and environment.

     

     Coastal Virginia - Eastern Shore

    Melfa - April 5 - ACES presents Pianist Thomas Pandolfi - Thomas Pandolfi's mastery of the music, playing precision and finesse of expression are simply spectacular. He returns to the Shore to again captivate the audience with his artistry.

    Fries - April 3, 10, 17, 24 - Crooked Road Thursday Night Jam Session - Thursday evenings everyone meets for the "Jam Sessions in Fries" and a friendly 2 hour (or longer) jam of old time, bluegrass, and country music commences.

    Rocky Mount - April 6 - Moonshine Express - Moonshine Express. Tales from The Moonshine Capital of the World. Tour the county seat - Rocky Mount - by bus meeting "interesting" characters. Get tickets early!

    Abingdon - April 6, 13, 20, 27 - Music on the Lawn- Abingdon Music Experience - classical and jazz music on the lawn at The Martha.

    Floyd - April 25-27 - The Black Dog Mountain Adventure Weekend - Springtime outdoor activities include horseback riding, skeet shooting, guided hiking, fly fishing, educational exhibits, wine receptions, game dinners, and much more.

    Heathsville - April 19 - Northern Neck Wine Tasting Festival - Northern Neck Wine Tasting Festival at Historic circa 1795 Rice's Hotel/Hughlett's Tavern in Heathsville, featuring the wines of the Chesapeake Wine Trail. Coincides with monthly Farmers Market.
