Named after the Appomattox River, the Town of Appomattox is located just three miles from the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park  which is also known as Clover Hill. This is the site of Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s surrender to Union General Ulysses S. Grant on April 9, 1865, which helped to end the Civil War. Getting here is easy.  With a convenient mid-Atlantic location, Appomattox is within a days drive of over half the nation's population.  We are four hours from Washington D.C., three hours from Virginia Beach, 2.5 hours from the Historic Triangle of Jamestown/Williamsburg/Yorktown, and 1.5 hours from Richmond, capitol of Virginia and the old Confederacy.
