Fredericksburg is located on the Interstate 95 corridor midway between Richmond and Washington, D.C. The city is part of the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Historic Downtown Fredericksburg features numerous specialty, retail, craft and antique shops in restored 18th- and 19th-century buildings. Outstanding cultural and entertainment events are presented by Mary Washington College as well as the Fredericksburg Theater Company. Ferry Farm, the boyhood home of George Washington, is in Fredericksburg.

The city operates several parks, including a 211-acre recreation area on both sides of the Rappahannock River. Four Civil War battlefields are maintained by the National Park Service, too. With acres of sprawing natural areas, you can do it all from hiking to waterskiing.
