The Lowesville community, situated at the junction of the
Little Piney and Big Piney Rivers at the Nelson-Amherst County line, was once a
thriving community with a railroad, stores and other commercial development in
the area. The Woodson Lumber Company
located a chestnut log milling operation which brought the railroad to the
Woodson’s Mill, operated from the turn
of the century to the 1950s, is again in operation. It has a small-scale milling business and
products are available for purchase.
