Staunton is conveniently located in the heart of Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. Named “One of a Dozen Distinctive Destinations in the United States” by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Staunton was also the first Virginia community to receive a “Great American Main Street Award.”

Known for its magnificently preserved architecture, Staunton is best explored by foot. Its compact downtown features over 100 unique shops, art galleries and restaurants. Staunton also offers nine Bed and Breakfasts housed within beautifully restored buildings.

Five historic districts surround our award-winning downtown where you can catch a play at the Blackfriars Playhouse, tour the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Museum at his Birthplace, or browse shops and art galleries after dining in one of our hip restaurants. Bring the past to life at the Frontier Culture Museum, a living history museum with costumed interpreters featuring five historic, working farms. Here you can explore the lifestyles of the early pioneers that settled in the Shenandoah Valley.
