Strasburg is "...an enchanting village situated in a beautiful valley between
Massanutten Mountain and the Blue Ridge Mountains...," as listed in the 50 Best
Small Southern Towns. Strasburg is conveniently located at the intersection of
I-81 and I-66 and historic Routes 11 and 55, making it easy for a daytrip or
weekend venture into history, natural beauty, and the friendly atmosphere of a
small town.
Crossroad of History & Nature

Strasburg offers a rare continuum of architectural styles, periods and
building types representing over two centuries of settlement in the Shenandoah
Valley. Many descendants of the German settlers who traveled south from
Pennsylvania to tame this wilderness still call Strasburg home. The industrious
nature of those early settlers brought success to the first industries of grist
mills and tanneries. Because of the rich soil and abundant crops, the area was
known as "the bread basket of the South." Strasburg was also home to many fine
makers of pottery and stoneware, earning it the nickname, "Pot Town".
The Town is in the midst of several historic battlefields: Cedar
Creek, Hupp's Hill, Fisher's Hill and Tom's Brook. A
hearty hike to Signal Knob, at the north end of Massanutten Mountain, rewards
one with a spectacular panorama and a bird's eye view of positions and movements
in three counties throughout the Civil War. The Stonewall Jackson Museum
at Hupp's Hill is a look at Jackson's famous Valley Campaign of 1862
and Sheridan's Valley Campaigns of 1864. Close by are remnants of outposts from
the French and Indian War, and the Strasburg Museum is filled
with local artifacts, railroad relics, and cooper, blacksmith and potters
collections.
Outdoor enthusiasts can hike or bike with over 160 miles of trails, while
others may enjoy visiting our numerous antique shops. Nearby is Half Moon Beach
(in season) and paintball adventuring.
Spring and fall events include our Mayfest, the 3rd weekend
in May, and Oktoberfest, the 1st Saturday in October. Strasburg
Theatre hosts a variety of live entertainment all year.
