In May of 1607 English colonists formed the first permanent English
settlement in North America and we’ve been here ever since. James City was
established soon after the first colonization in 1634 by King Charles I.
Recently celebrating its 400th anniversary of Jamestown in 2007, the
county is home to the very beginnings of our great nation. During the
Revolutionary War the area was used as a military post due to its location by
the water. It is also near Middle Plantation from 1676, or what is now called
Williamsburg. So much history so close together, it is impossible to miss. Come
be part of the Virginia Historic Triangle and add your history to ours.
Possibly the most famous attraction of the area is the
Jamestown Settlement itself. This is an opportunity to experience what is
called a living history museum, where you can walk through the settlement and
even see people from the past living the way they would have in 1607. Keep your
eyes open, you don’t want to miss anyone. In this beautiful area you’re invited
to come walk were the very first settlers walked and discover what your nation
means to you.
