Mecklenburg County is located in the south of the Central Virginia region and is bordered on the south by the North Carolina state line

It's popular recreational attractions include Buggs Island Lake and Lake Gaston. Occoneechee State Park is located near Clarksville on Buggs Island Lake, too.

The MacCallum More Gardens, located on a 5-acre estate in the midst of Chase City, is an unexpeected find for visitors. Prestwould Plantation also is in Mecklenburg County. It was originally built in 1790 and is a Virginia Historic Landmark.
