George Washington National Forest and Shenandoah National Park
Get ready for an amazing escape!
Harrisonburg offers hiking and biking trails; rich history and heritage, and within minutes of the George Washington National Forest offering spectacular views from 4,398 feet above most other mountains. Harrisonburg is centrally located in the Shenandoah Valley, a gateway to the Shenandoah National Park and Blue Ridge Parkway.

Day 1:
“Do” Downtown: First stroll through the
Farmers Market at Turner Pavilion, and load up on some local goodies, fresh baked breads, and jam. Now you’re ready for your drive to nearby Reddish Knob just west of Harrisonburg within the
George Washington National Forest. At 4,398 feet, the knob stands above most other mountain peaks in the eastern Allegheny Mountains. The Fall chill brings shades of orange, bronze, red, and purple with evergreen trees remaining vibrant and aromatic. Next stop, drive to the
High Knob Lookout Tower, started in 1939 by World War I veterans and completed in 1940 by men working from North River Camp #2 of the Civil Conservation Corps. At the end of your road trip, enjoy a delicious variety of homemade valley favorites at
Traditions Family Style Restaurant or try
Jess’ Quick Lunch, and grab a hot dog and hand-dipped milk shake. Are you ready to relax in comfort at a guilt-free rate? Choose a Bed & Breakfast. Harrisonburg offers three:
By the Side of the Road Bed & Breakfast,
Stonewall Jackson B&B and the
Joshua Wilton House Inn, all offering a variety of rates to fit your guilt-free getaway.

Day 2:
After a great night's sleep, order lunch to go from
Mr. J’s Bagel’s and Deli and head to
Back Home on the Farm, offering 23 activities for one great price - good old fashion pig racing, an amazing corn maze, pumpkin patch, country store and Virginia Carousel! It’s back to your accommodations and then dinner at one of our fun downtown restaurants. Choose from
Clementine Café or
Dave’s Downtown Taverna.

Day 3:
Heading home going north, enter the
Swift Run Gap entrance to the Shenandoah National Park and cruise the
Skyline Drive. Is home south of Harrisonburg? Hop on the
Blue Ridge Parkway in Waynesboro and discover breathtaking mountain views and vibrant fall foliage.
