Holidays in Fairfax

Whether you love historyshopping or seasonal events, we're bringing on the cheer and adding extra glitz to make a winter getaway well worth your while. Here are just a few of the treasures you'll find when you stay in Fairfax County.

Day One:

restonrink

Sometimes you just need to get out of your element to get into the mood. So come on to Fairfax County in Northern Virginia and capture a piece of our magic! We suggest you start the day at Reston Town Center and unleash your inner figure skating champion at their pavilion, which is home to a seasonal ice rink.

After your gold medal performance on the ice you can re-energize at one of the Town Center's restaurants, like local favorite Clyde's. Don't forget, you're surrounded by dozens of retailers, so be sure and stop in and bring back a gift for your favorite loved ones - or yourself!

Finish off the day by visiting the only National Park dedicated solely to the performing arts in the United States, Wolf Trap. The Barns at Wolf Trap is the park's winter venue and features world famous performers in an unparalleled intimate setting. Check their calendar to see which performing artist is in town at the same time you are.

Day Two:

mountvernon-night

A winter trip to Fairfax County isn't complete without taking a trip to our very own George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens. The Washingtons will be sure to treat you right while visiting and you can even experience what a 18th century meal would be like at the on-site Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant. Of course we recommend trying their famous Virginia Ham.

If you can't get enough of Virginia history you can also visit George Mason's Gunston Hall, historic Woodlawn Plantation and Frank Lloyd Wright's Pope-Leighey House which are all nearby. However, if your mind's history museum is full for the day, you can take the short drive to the Lorton Workhouse Arts Center and browse this artist paradise for some work to take home and add to your collection or attend one of their classes so they can teach you how to create your own. Side note on the Workhouse, it used to be a prison! (Talk about making lemonade out of lemons!)

For dinner, you must try Härth, an award-winning farm-to-table restaurant at Hilton McLean Tysons Corner Hotel, where guests enjoy cozy fireside dining.

Day Three:

Okay, okay we know you still haven't fulfilled your shopping quota yet, so just head to Northern Virginia's home of shopping bliss - Tysons Corner, and visit the shopping trifecta of Tysons Corner CenterTysons Galleria and Fairfax Square. This area is known the world over for its abundance of stores so if you can't find what you're looking for, you're probably not looking hard enough.

If you have questions you can also stop in our visitor center, located in Tysons Corner Center, and they'll give you the latest scoop on the upcoming events and other attractions located all across our wonderful county.
