Norfolk State University is an urban institution located in the heart of a metropolitan area. The undergraduate enrollment of 8,700 is composed of students from all sections of the U.S. and thirty-five foreign countries. The 123-acre campus, with 26 buildings, is both beautiful and utilitarian. Twenty percent of the students live on campus in single-sex dormitories; others live nearby off campus or commute from their homes. Norfolk State University is regionally accredited by the Southern Assoc. of Colleges and Schools, and its programs are approved by the American Council on Education, the Virginia State Board of Education and other appropriate professional agencies.
