Hearty German fare for your Guten Appetit!

On April 1, 1974, Eckhard and Bruni Thalwitz opened the Bavarian Chef on Route 29 in Madison, Virginia. The Bavarian Chef quickly became a local favorite, renowned for its tasty fare and warm hospitality. Generous portions of authentic German cuisine, family-style side dishes and mouth-watering desserts are the hallmark of a hearty meal at The Bavarian Chef. Today, chef/owner Jerome Thalwitz continues his parents' tradition of excellence. Under his direction, the Bavarian Chef has garnered acclaim from magazines such as Bon Appetit, and it continues to be featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Virginian-Pilot as a top-rated German restaurant.

Open Wed-Sat 4:30-9:00pm & Sun 11:30am-9:00pm.
