Hearty German fare for your Guten Appetit!
On April 1, 1974, the Thalwitz family opened the first Bavarian Chef restaurant on Route 29 in Madison, Virginia. In May 2010, Jerome and Christine Thalwitz opened a second location in the historic train station in downtown Fredericksburg. Generous portions, family-style side dishes and mouth-watering desserts are the hallmark of a hearty meal at the Bavarian Chef. Known throughout the United States, and even internationally, for its tasty fare and gemütlichkeit, or cheery conviviality, The Bavarian Chef has garnered acclaim from magazines such as Bon Appetit and continues to be featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Virginian-Pilot as a top-rated German restaurant. The Bavarian Chef Fredericksburg was recently featured as one of the Best New Restaurants of 2011 and as one of the 50 Best Restaurants by Northern Virginia Magazine.
