Welcome to the 2014 Historic Garen Week sponsored by the Garden Club of Virginia and the Franklin Garden Club. Celebrate spring in Virginia by attending the tour entitled Past to Present: Jerusalem to Courtland. Courtland is the county seat as well as the cultural and commercial center of Southampton County. Originally named Jerusalem when it was incorporated in 1792, Courtland has a unique, rich history. It’s past and present prosperity is represented by the homes and properties open for the tour. The tour includes a variety of 4 styles of contemporary homes, 2 historic properties, Rawls Museum Art Gallery (where complimentary refreshments will be served from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.) and the Southampton Agriculture and Forestry Museum and Heritage Village. One of the historic homes is the Mahone Tavern, listed on both the Virginia and National Historic Registers.

Special Events: Maps for the self-guided walking/driving tour in Courtland for the Southampton Insurrection Walking Trail (Nat Turner) of 1831 will be available at Mahone’s Tavern, the Rochelle-Prince House and the Southampton Agriculture and Forestry Museum.

Lunch: Available between 11:00-1:30 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 22430 Main Street, for $13. Reservations are not required.
