25th Anniversary of the American Chestnut Restoration Program at Meadowview, VA
On Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. the Southwest Virginia Branch of the American Chestnut Foundation© (TACF) will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the American chestnut restoration program at the Glenn C. Price Research Laboratory, in Meadowview, VA. This event is an opportunity for families to learn about the restoration of the American chestnut, and enjoy an afternoon of food, live music, and fun. Events include:
Farm Tour – The public is invited to tour of the Glenn C. Price Research Farm starting at 2:30 PM. The wagon tours through the chestnut orchard will be led by Dr. Hebard. After the orchard tours, visitors can also tour the lab where advanced genetic research is being conducted and learn about volunteer opportunities. Activities for kids will also be included.
Chestnut Roast and Beer – The event will feature roasted chestnuts, light snacks with a chestnut theme, and locally brewed chestnut beer provided by The Damascus Brewery.
Raffle – A highlight of the event will be the raffling of pairs of potentially blight-resistant Restoration Chestnut 1.0 seedlings and merchandise contributed by local merchants.
