The Jackson River Scenic Trail follows its namesake river, winding its way between Clearwater Park north of Covington and Intervale to the north. The trail follows an old railroad bed of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway (Hot Springs Branch) and passes through small communities, cultivated fields, and small patches of woodland along the way. It isn't uncommon to see wildlife from the trail. There are plans to extend the trail another 10 miles.
The course will begin and end at The Smith Bridge Trail Head. The course is smooth crushed gravel surface and is mostly flat with some light hills. The 1 mile, 10k and Half Marathon have turn around points with volunteers making sure you don't miss them. The starting point is also the finish. There will be at least 2 water stations on the way and on the way back for the half marathon! There will also be port-a-johns available at the start/finish, Dunbrack Circle 1.5 miles and Clearview beside the pump house at approximately 5 miles. Refreshments and awards ceremony will take place at noon in Downtown Covington.
Save the date! June 28th, 2014!
