The Battle of New Market just got more interactive, for kids at least. The Virginia Museum of the Civil War is pleased to announce its first ever Civil War Adventure Camp to be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013 in conjunction with the 149th anniversary reenactment of the Battle of New Market. Kids, ages 7-12, may register for this special 2 ½ hour program that will allow participants to take part in hands-on activities exploring the roles of Union and Confederate soldiers, VMI Cadets and civilians during the Civil War. They’ll learn basic drill maneuvers, try their hand at 19th century games, eat authentic period foods, receive prizes and lots more. Led by trained educators, this program is designed to complement the Virginia Standards of Learning. The cost is just $35.00 per child and includes Reenactment admission for the camper plus one accompanying adult. One parent or designated guardian must remain at the Battlefield for the duration of the Camp. Camp hours are 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2013. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
