Mother’s Day weekend is the date for this year’s Studio Tour featuring 11 private workspaces - and almost 40 artists. Painters, photographers, potters, glass artists, sculptors and assemblage and mixed media artists will welcome visitors into their intimate working spaces for a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process.
Five studios are located in the picturesque historic city of Lexington. Six are scattered along a well-marked loop through scenic Rockbridge County. Start the tour at any studio and artists will provide written directions to the next studio. Colorful roadside signs will tell you where to turn, and where to park.
The distinctive studios are expressions of art in themselves - converted spaces in homes and warehouses, a remodeled 250-year-old log cabin, a tree house and an 1883 country inn turned into a “B&B art school.” Some offer solitude and isolation along rolling country roads, others thrive in the expanding arts district of Lexington.
The tour is designed to provide insight into how art is created: Hosts encourage visitors to ask questions about the processes and techniques used. Studio guests further expand the tour's art forms to include weaving, woodworking, jewelry-making, glass blowing and silversmithing.
The tour is FREE and works will be for sale.
