The Greek Festival, an annual event held under one of Hampton Roads’ biggest tents on the grounds of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Norfolk, Virginia, begins Thursday, May 12 and will run through Sunday, May 15, 2011.
The 2011 Greek Festival, Tidewater's oldest and largest ethnic festival, will include the traditional Greek cuisine, exciting entertainment, arts and crafts, beautiful jewelry and the very popular drive-thru!
Food and music highlight the festival. Outdoor stands will sell everything from Souvlaki to Loukoumades — all homemade in the flavorful tradition of Greek cuisine. The food will be available for take-out or may be eaten at tables in the outdoor tents while listening to live music or indoors in the Hellenic Center.
Greece is one of the few countries in the world where folk dances are as alive today as they were in ancient times. Our very own Annunciation Cathedral Dancers will dance throughout the festival. Aside from our Cathedral's Hellenic Festival our dancers have performed by a Special invitation at the NATOfest and have also brightened the day for many at some of Norfolk's senior homes.
The Annunciation Greek Orthodox community is celebrating this year its 100th year anniversary in Norfolk.
