Apple Cider Making Demo at Saunders Brother Orchard. Apple Cider by Tom Burford, the "Apple Professor." Burford will be demonstrating how to run a hand cranked cider mill, and then demonstrate pressing apple pulp into cider. Burford's family has been growing apples and grafting apple trees near Lynchburg since the 1700's. He learned to graft apple trees at age 7 and has been featured on National Public Radio for his knowledge of heirloom apple varieties. In addition, Tom has advised many cideries on making both sweet and hard apple cider. His knowledge of what each apple variety contributes to the flavor of the cider is sought after by new apple cider operations. He also hosts apple cider tastings at many cideries. There is no cost to attend the demonstration.
