In mid-summer blackberries ripen in the open areas along trails and streams in Shenandoah. The mountain residents who lived in Shenandoah prior to the national park’s establishment would pick the berries and make their jams and jellies, as we still do today. We will be using blackberries in a variety of foods such as Pulled Pork with a Blackberry BBQ Sauce, Grilled Chicken with a Blackberry Relish, Blackberry Triffle, Blackberry Cobbler, Blackberry jellies & syrup.
Celebrate the wonderful flavor of this seasonal berry in a variety of ways. Live entertainment includes Gospel/Country Singer Glen Shelton, High Ground Blue Grass Band, the Shenandoah Valley Cloggers, Turkey Ridge String Band and the Calico Cloggers. . We'll have face painting and crafts for the kids and wine tasting for the adults.
It’s a great way to spend the day for the entire family. Skyland Resort is located at 41.7 and 42.5 on Skyline Drive. Free admission to the event. NPS admission fee does apply. Stay overnight in Shenandoah at Skyland - http://www.goshenandoah.com/Skyland-Resort.aspx - and enjoy the weekend.
