The Fredericksburg Area Museum & Cultural Center (FAMCC) is pleased to announce two new exhibitions as part of its Community Artist Series. The exhibitions will feature the work of influential local artist Jack Darling and the North Windsor Artists. Few artists of the Fredericksburg region have been as influential as John S. “Jack” Darling (1911-2007) of King George County. A US Navy technical illustrator by trade, as a youth Darling studied art under Charles Webster Hawthorne at the summer art schools of Provincetown, Rhode Island. Later, he trained under Thornton Oakley at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Arts.Opening August 16, Community Artist Series: Jack Darling and North Windsor Artists will run concurrently in two galleries of the Museum, allowing visitors to see first-hand the lasting influence drawn from the work and mentorship of John S. Darling. An opening reception for FAMCC members will be held on August 21 at 6PM. Advanced registration is required.
