Held annually the second Saturday in September, this festival honors the lives of two local extraordinary musicians –banjoist Moran Lea "Dock" Boggs and ballad singer and songwriter Kate O’Neill Peters Sturgill. Dock Boggs was one of the truly great American folk musicians of the twentieth century.

The festival offers well-known local, regional, and nationally-known traditional musicians and dancers, as well as handmade mountain arts and crafts and home-cooked mountain foods.

Featured musicians for 2013 is The Whitetop Mountain Band.
