Calling all knitters! Have you ever wanted to create your own yarn? In this day long workshop join local spinner, researcher, writer and educator, Nancy Ferguson, to learn the secrets of hand spinning and dyeing. Did you know that sheep once roamed the woods and open spaces on Assateague? Listen and learn as Nancy interprets the history, form, and function of the sheep and wool spinning on mid-Atlantic barrier islands. Program participants will learn the process of dyeing wool and how to turn it into yarn for knitting. This hands-on workshop will introduce participants to the pleasures of spinning wool and dyeing with native plants. Participants will use local in season flowers or nuts to create a dye pot and learn to use a hand spindle to spin wool. Each participant will receive a hand spindle and supply of wool to take home. Lunch is included.
