Referred to as “the prettiest little town in southside Virginia,” a visit to Chatham is a step back in time. Travel down Main Street past stately homes, churches and structures built in the 19th and early 20th century for this Sunday afternoon walking tour. Go beyond the beautiful lawns and gardens to glimpse inside homes and sanctuaries, lovingly cared for and decorated to complement their historical architecture. Stroll downtown and learn the history of structures and meet re-enactors of former residents. Then step off Main Street and tour the picturesque campus of Chatham Hall, an all-girl boarding school founded in 1894. Refreshments on the terrace overlooking the picturesque countryside are included in the tour ticket.
Proceeds from the event fund the restoration and preservation of Virginia's historic gardens, and provide research fellowships for building comprehensive and ongoing records of historic gardens and landscapes in the Commonwealth.
