From some of the founding artists of the Washington Color School movement to some of the greatest representational painters today, many of the regions most notable artists have taught at The Art League over the last 60 years. Showcasing extraordinary works of art, “Influence and Inspiration” highlights the League’s finest past and present faculty in the historic Athenaeum space.

Works by famed Washington Color School artists and past Art League instructors Sam Gilliam and Lou Stovall will be featured alongside current faculty including Kurt Schwarz, Danni Dawson, Ted Reed, and Rob Liberace. This collection of artwork represents the immeasurable amount of influence and inspiration League faculty have provided to tens of thousands of students, Alexandria, and the region over the last six decades.

In addition to the faculty exhibit, a narrative video featuring student experiences, journeys, and testimonials will be on view.

Exhibit hours: Thursday & Friday: 12:00 noon–4:00 pm Saturday: 1:00–4:00 pm Sunday: 12:00 noon–4:00 pm Closed Monday–Wednesday Reception: Sunday, September 7, 4:00–6:00 pm
