The class begins with a studio tour where you are introduced to the various stations at Oldtown Pottery. You will learn how to prep clay, use the slab roller, how to use the available tools, how to make a simple project, and what needs to be done at the end of the evening to clean up your work area.
Kim will introduce you to the pottery process - you will learn how to make a simple piece and also learn how to finish your project - how long it takes things to dry, bisque firing, glazing, and final firing. You'll make a simple project (a tripod pot!) to learn a few basic skills including how to join pieces so they stay together during firing. You will glaze a bisque fired "empty bowl" to learn how to glaze a piece and what needs to be done to make sure it doesn't stick to the kiln.
At the end of the class you should be ready to go to work making things out of clay on your own!
The cost is $20, and includes an Open Studio Pass to use at a future Open Studio session.
