Get your hands dirty and your heart centered in this wonderful introduction to the potter's wheel. Learn how to throw several pounds of clay into beautifully concentric pots. Learn the meanings and methods of various clay terms including: wedging, centering, pulling, coning, compressing, shaping, trimming, glazing and more. Students will learn to make both the Cylinder and Bowl which are the basis of all wheel-thrown pottery forms. Whether you are familiar with the potter's wheel or not, this introductory wheel throwing class will give students a strong foundation in throwing techniques. If students like some of the products they create in this class they are welcome to organize a kiln firing with Sarah. Such products may be used in future glazing classes, where students are asked to bring their own bisque ware.  About the Instructor: Sidra Kaluszka is a graduate
of Floyd County High School, Virginia Tech and most recently, Radford University where she graduated with a double Masters of Fine Art degree in watercolor and ceramics. She is currently the pottery studio manager for the Jax and maintains a studio space at the center. Minimum Age: Responsible Young Adult
