The second annual “Legends of the Fly” is an immersive, two-day fly fishing event benefiting Project Healing Waters, an organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of disabled military veterans through fly fishing and associated activities including education and outings.
Among the fly fishing anglers who travel to the event, legend Chico Fernandez, a world record holder, will be in attendance, along with local legend Cory Routh. Wild River Outfitters, Hobie watercraft and Ross Reels will be participating in demo day out on the water at the Lynnhaven Inlet.
“Legends of the Fly” consists of two days, Friday evening (May 8) at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) and Saturday (May 9) at the Brock Environmental Center on the Lynnhaven Inlet. Friday evening guests will experience a presentation by fly fishing legend Chico Fernandez, a viewing of the winning entries from the Fly Fishing Film Tour, the chance for interaction with fly fishing vendors and artists, food and live music. On Saturday, during the demo day on the Lynnhaven Inlet, guests will participate in sessions led by local Cory Routh. These include the basics of fishing Virginia’s coastal waters, saltwater fly casting fundamentals, saltwater fly tying 101 and fly fishing gear demos. Watercrafts will be available to paddle around in and cast a line to practice reeling in the big one.
Admission Fee: Friday Event Tickets @ MOCA: $20 online - $25 at the door; Saturday Event Tickets @ the Brock Environmental Center: $10 online - $15 at the door
