The McDonald's North American Sand Soccer Championships (NASSC) is, with 1,000 amateur and pro/am teams and 11,000 players, the largest beach/sand soccer festival known to exist. Created by the Hampton Roads Soccer Council (HRSC) in 1994 as a charity revenue generator for its Hampton Roads Soccer Complex in Va Beach, the massive beach sports festival is one of the tourism highlights of the summer season, involving 65 sand fields spread over 1 1/2 miles of oceanfront.
NASSC attracts approximately 200,000 fans and spectators daily to observe competition from many states and foreign countries. NASSC's centerpiece is the US OPEN Men's pro/am division where US and international teams compete for significant cash prizes in a beach stadium. Over 80 skill/gender/age divisions support competition for most athletes, novice and higher. Several extreme beach sports are offered including beach coed football, beach field hockey, wrestling, tennis and lacrosse.
NASSC is rountinely selected by the Southeast Tourism Society as one of its "Top 20) festivals and BRAND USA has tapped NASSC as one of the top sports events in Virginia.
Application deadline is April 1st (US OPEN pros March 1st) .
