North American Sand Soccer Championships (NASSC) is the world's premier beach/sand soccer festival with 10,000 youth/adult players of all skill levels, novice through men's pro/am "U.S. OPEN" cash div/national championship. Many of the top international beach soccer athletes frequent the tournament. Originated in 1994 as a venue in the emerging sport of beach soccer, the event now includes in excess of 60 seaside sand fields on a contigious 1 1/2 miles of premier resort oceanfront. Attracting a base of 40,000 from 20 states and several countries, the festival is additionally viewed by a minimum of 50,000 daily visitors on the famed Virginia Beach Boardwalk. Over 2,000 matches are held during NASSC . Other beach sports attractions may include wrestling, coed football, tennis, crossfit obstacle races, and lacrosse. NASSC is also affiliated with the City's annual "LatinFest" food and music celebration, staged adjacent to the tournament's pro/am beach stadium. Most recently presented by the McDonald's Corporation of Southeastern VA and Northeastern NC, NASSC is a not-for-profit festival conducted annually by the Hampton Roads Soccer Council to support continued development of its 75-acre "Hampton Roads Soccer Complex" in Va Beach.
