The Willard Companies, in conjunction with the Smith Mountain Lake YMCA, present the second annual Oktoberfest and 5K Trail Race, Saturday, Oct. 4 at Westlake Towne Center in Moneta. The 5K Trail Race will start at 10:30 a.m. Oktoberfest will follow from 12 noon-5 p.m.

The 5K Trail Race will begin at Sunken City Brewery, wind through the Jack-O-Lantern Branch Heritage Trail at the Booker T. Washington National Monument and end at Oktoberfest. Race registration is $25 for adults, $15 for children under age 13. T-shirts are available to the first 100 participants. All proceeds benefit the Smith Mountain Lake YMCA. The Oktoberfest festival will include live entertainment by Harbor Towne Fest Band, who will perform authentic German music in traditional Bavarian-style clothing. The event will also feature a children’s play area, German food and a special Oktoberfest beer brewed by Sunken City Brewery. Admission for adults is $5 and free for children age 13 and under. Valid ID is required for patrons age 21 and older. Food and drink vendors will be on site. Lawn chairs are welcome. Coolers, outside food or drinks, rollerblades, skateboards and pets are prohibited. Bags will be subject to inspection.
