Workshop: Ekphrasis-- Poetry from Art
Sunday April 27, noon-4pm
Workshop fee: none
Open to all levels
Back by popular demand! Our pilot workshop in January went so well that we're offering it as a special event for National Poetry Month. Ekphrasis is an exercise in which the artist relates one medium of art to another medium, defining and describing its essence and transposing its "illuminative liveliness." In this workshop, we'll be studying examples of ekphrasis from classical to modern, and we'll then use Crossroads' ever-changing labyrinth of art as inspiration to create poems of our own. New in April: We'll also explore the idea of "reverse ekphrasis" (art from poetry) and consider other implications of this creative cross-pollination. Participants are encouraged to share their poems with the group at the end of the session in an intimate, friendly, round-table setting that will be open to the public. If time allows, we may even do a walking "poetic tour" of the gallery! This workshop is not focused on any one poetic form or style, and all experience levels are welcome.
