The Museum of Culpeper History will open their new exhibit "War Comes to Culpeper" in February 2012, which highlights the events of 1862 including Culpeper's largest battle, the Battle of Cedar Mountain. Also included will be a special display on Culpeper native and Confederate scout and spy Frank Stringfellow. Highlights of Stringfellow's illustrious and colorful military career include spying behind Union lines at the Battle of Cedar Mountain, setting up a line of communication between Confederate sympathizers in the Washington War Department and Richmond, raiding a Union Picket post in Alexandria, and becoming a master of disguise. He became an Episcopal minister after the war and died at age 73. It is hoped that several of his descendents will be in Culpeper to unveil the new exhibit which will remain in place throughout the Sesquicentennial. The exhibit will conclude in February of 2015 coinciding with the 150th Anniversary.
