The Appomattox County Historical Society Museum and Library is located in Courthouse Square in the town of Appomattox. The building served as the Appomattox County jail beginning in 1897. It was the third jail to have been built in Appomattox County and was in continuous use until May 1981 when the Appomattox County Historical Society began operating the building as a museum. The museum houses many artifacts related to the Civil War and Appomattox County history. Beginning in 2013, the building will also house a genealogy and local history library.
The museum is open April 1 - October 31, Tuesday 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Thursday and Saturday 10:00 am - 4:00pm.
Admission Fee: $3.00 for adults, $2.00 for students and children
