18th century five part Palladian style mansion which has been restored. Battersea was built by Petersburg's Founding Father, John Bannister, who signed the Articles of Confederation. A key feature of the 18th century architecture is a beautiful Chinese staircase in the Chippendale style in the central block of the house.

Tours by appointment only. Site of annual reenactment of 1781 Battle of Petersburg held the third weekend in April. Event includes full-scale period encampment, live skirmishes, and battles. Other events include a ceremonial wreath laying, house tours, Colonial-period music and dancing. Sutlers and concessions also on site. Free to the public. A wonderful, educational event for the whole family and very kid friendly.
