This 18th century village was the scene of the Battle of Buckland, on October 19, 1863 between Confederate cavalry under Gen. J.E.B. Stuart and Federal cavalry under Gen. Judson Kilpatrick. Here Confederates routed the Federals in what was called the "Buckland Races." The trails expands on the village's role in the war and the battle.
