This historic home is a private residence. It was the home of Colonel George Hancock aid-de-campe for Count Pulaski, during the American Revolution. Hancock also served in the Virginia House of Delegates and the U.S. Congress and was the father-in-law of William Clark. Forthingay was built in 1796 and the family cemetery contains several people of regional importance. Representative Henry Alonzo Edmundson, along with Sgt. William B. Edmundonson of the 4th Va Infantry and Lt. Colonel David Edmundson of the 2nd Va Cavalary are buried on the grounds.
