The Historic Henry County Courthouse, recognized as a community landmark, is home to the MHC Historical Society as well as the Heritage Center & Museum, that showcases a variety of exhibits. It is centrally located in the Martinsville Historic District and is open to the public for tours and meetings. The courthouse was constructed in 1824. Over the years, additions were added to the structure. It is situated within what is termed courthouse square. The front lawn is accented by a variety of wartime and commemorative markers that have been placed over the years. This is the first stop of the "Walking Tour of Historic UpTown Martinsville." A guidebook of the tour is available at the Historic Henry County Courthouse and at the MHC Visitor Center at 191 Fayette Street.

Admission is free. Open Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from 10 am to 6 pm and Thurs. (Apr.23) -Fri.(Apr.24) from 2 pm to 5 pm. Beginning April 29, 2015, the Courthouse will be open on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 2 pm to 5 pm.
