The Historic Fieldale Iron Bridge was constructed in 1931 and is located in Southern Virginia. The Iron Bridge has been an important part of the community of Fieldale since its construction. When community members found out that the bridge would be destroyed to make way for a new more modern bridge, they joined forces to preserve the historic structure.
The former bridge has been modified and a small piece was saved and placed along the Smith River Trail System at the entrance to the Fieldale Trail as "Trail Art". Fieldale Trail users still have the opportunity to walk across the "Historic Iron Bridge," learn about the history of Fieldale and see the memorial plaques that were purchased by community members mounted to the bridge in honor or memory of loved ones.
