Leesburg's role as a commercial center for the region dates back to the days when Indians traded on this lush landscape between the Potomac River and the Blue Ridge Mountains. By the early 1700s, a prosperous settlement known as George Town had developed at the intersection of two important Colonial roads, the Ridge Road (now Route 7) and the Carolina Road (Route 15). In 1758, the town was chartered as Leesburg, the county seat of Loudoun, fueling its prominence as a crossroads of commerce. Today our location is as important as it was in historical times. Leesburg now has more than 65 restaurants and 250 retail stores that draw shoppers from near and far. From our charming Historic District to our many contemporary shopping centers, Leesburg offers a variety of quality merchandise, and convenient and plentiful free parking.
