The Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site commemorates the life of a progressive and talented African American woman. Despite many adversities, she achieved success in the world of business and finance as the first woman in the United States to found and serve as president of a bank. The site includes her residence of thirty years. The house is restored to its 1930's appearance with original Walker family pieces. Special activities include special events during Black History Month in February, July 15th Birthday Celebration, open house during the Second Street Festival the first weekend in October, and Historic house tours during the Christmas holidays with period decorations. Nearby attractions include Black History and Cultural Museum of Virginia, Inc., Bill "Bojangles" Robinson Statue and the Richmond Fire & Police Museum.
