The Grove, an antebellum home built in 1854 by John Stafford Hale and his wife, Margaret Ingles Saunders Hale, great-granddaughter of Mary Draper Ingles, is open for tours, by appointment only. Confederate General Jubal A. Early's law office is on the grounds. The house is located in the heart of Rocky Mount, VA, half an hour from Roanoke, half an hour from Smith Mt. Lake, two hours from Winston-Salem, NC, three hours from Richmond.
