Westover is one of the most elegant and historic colonial plantations. It was built in the first half of the 18th century by the Byrd family, and is widely known for its superb proportions. Shaded by a magnificent collection of trees, the grounds offer a commanding view of the James River and eagles soaring overhead. Visitors can walk the expansive grounds, admire the beautiful formal gardens, and look inside old outbuildings.

Westover is a site on numerous trails including Civil War Trails, John Smith Adventures on the James Driving and Water Trails and the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail.

The Westover grounds and outbuildings may be toured daily. House tours may be scheduled for groups of 12 and more. Individuals may tour the house during Autumn Pilgrimage and some days during Historic Garden Week.
