This commemorative monument was built in 1908 by the Daughters of the Confederacy and the citizens of Williamsburg and James City County to honor fallen Confederate soldiers. The monument was originally located on the Palace Green, but was moved to its current location in the 1930s during the restoration of Colonial Williamsburg.
