As the two armies were fighting at Spotsylvania, Union cavalry made a dash for Richmond. J.E.B. Stuart's Confederate cavalry followed. During the May 11, 1864, battle here, Stuart was mortally wounded. A small memorial park is located where Stuart fell. It's just east of US Route 1 on the Telegraph Road (off Virginia Center Parkway). An Overland Campaign site.
