Historic Hotel Norton was built in 1921 at a cost of $375,000 with touches of New York, Chicago, and St. Louis in its architecture. It operated as a hotel until the mid-1960s when the structure began to fall into disrepair. The City purchased the building in 1987 and work to restore this treasure started in 1994. In 2001, the Commonwealth of Virginia placed the Hotel Norton on the Virginia Landmark Register and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The restoration received a Virginia Preservation Award from Preservation Alliance of Virginia, Prestigious Achievement Award from Virginia Municipal League, and Award of Excellence from Dewberry & Davis.
Today, historic Hotel Norton is a focal point on Park Avenue, housing Logistacare, Mountain Empire Regional Business Incubator, a host of start-up and small businesses taking up the upper floors. The main floors, ballroom and meeting spaces are open for meetings, special events, receptions, reunions and more.
