Originally opened as a state-of-the-art hotel in 1895, the building was beautifully restored and re-opened by three non-profit cultural organizations (Staunton Augusta Art Center, Historic Staunton Foundation, Augusta County Historical Society) that now make the R. R. Smith Center for History and Art their home and an important resource to the community. The buidling features art and history galleries, archival areas, a library, lecture hall, conference room, classrooms, a catering kitchen, gift shop, and unique venues for meetings, conferences, weddings, and parties.
