Oakland- Nelson County Museum of History is in a historic tavern with exhibits on Rural Electrification in Nelson County in the 1930s and Hurricane Camille and its devastation on Nelson County in 1969. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register. Open Saturdays 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM and Sundays 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM.
Oakland Museum Opens for the 2016 Season on April 9. The opening will feature a temporary special exhibit remembering Earl Hamner with memorabilia made available by the Daura Gallery at Lynchburg College. Later in April we will have a temporary exhibit of Burgess postcards of scenes of Nelson County communities from the early 1900s. A DVD of the Karenne Wood presentation on Monacan Indian History will be available in the Oakland gift shop. 434-263-8400.
